Job title: Graduate Submarines Weights Engineer

Location: Barrow (Cumbria). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – however for this role you will be expected to attend your site 5 days per week.

Salary: £34,000 Per Annum + £2,000 Welcome Bonus

Role description

You will play a vital role in ensuring every submarine is built, moved and operated within weights and stability limits. You will use engineering analysis and data to understand how changes to the submarine impact its performance, handling and construction. Working with design and production teams you will support major activities such as moving of units and modules, launching of the submarine and preparing of the submarine for sea. You will help build technical evidence, audit and challenge engineering data and contribute to safety and regulatory requirements. You will turn data into detailed engineering analysis into decisions with a direct impact on submarines.

Core duties

  • Provide technical analysis and specialist advice relating to weight management, handling and transportation activities.
  • Prepare data for technical and production teams to support the movement of units, sub-units, modules and rafts.
  • Undertake functional design activities and provide substantiation to demonstrate acceptance and fitness for purpose of the product.
  • Review, monitor and audit engineering data and methodologies to ensure validity.
  • Produce evidence to support legislative requirements, safety justifications and other associated engineering activities.

Qualification requirements

As a minimum requirement you must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in the following subjects: Mechanical Engineering
