Location: Barrow (Cumbria). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – however for this role you will be expected to attend your site up to 5 days per week.

Salary: £25,900 (pro-rata)

End Date: 10th September 2027

Role Description 

Join us in shaping the future of submarine design. Work alongside experienced engineers on complex and cutting edge programmes developing skills in areas such as hydrodynamics, stability and manoeuvrability and turning calculations into real world solutions. You will be contributing to solutions for engineering challenges demanding creativity and problem solving. You will be involved in the design of a complex engineering platform as well as supporting key evolutions across the shipyard, supporting the submarine delivery from concept design through to launch.

Core Duties 

  • Support submarine development by working with stakeholders including MOD and external suppliers to understand and agree engineering and design requirements.
  • Participate in design working groups to support the design of hull forms and other hydrodynamic aspects.
  • Undertake analyses and calculations relating to structural analysis, stability and manoeuvrability.
  • Provide guidance and support on the Naval Architecture design across submarine programmes.
  • Support a wide range of activities including concept upgrade design, detailed design, docking, and through-life maintenance and support.

All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Qualification requirements

As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain, a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in the following subjects: Naval Architecture, Marine Technology, Ships Science, Ocean Engineering or closely related STEM subjects.

Length of contract: 12 weeks
